The UPSC Civil Services selection process includes the following stages:

  • Prelims Written Exam
  • Mains Written Exam
  • Interview (275 Marks)
  • Document Verification
  • Medical Examination

It will be a screening test for Mains Exam. Prelims exam consists of two papers:

  • Paper 1: General Studies
  • Paper 2: Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT). It is to assess the candidate’s Reasoning & Aptitude abilities.

  1. Dearness Allowance (DA): A cost-of-living adjustment updated bi-annually. As of early 2025, it is approximately 50% of the Basic Pay
  2. House Rent Allowance (HRA): Provided if government housing is not opted for. Rates depend on the city category
    • X Cities (Metros): 24% of Basic Pay (e.g., Delhi, Mumbai).
    • Y Cities (Tier-2): 16% of Basic Pay.
    • Z Cities (Rural/Small Towns): 8% of Basic Pay.
  3. Transport Allowance (TA): A fixed amount plus DA on that amount to cover commuting costs. 

Here is a step-by-step guide for “How to apply Civil Services Online Form 2026”:

  • Registration: Click on the Apply-Now button below in the Important Links Section. Click on the Create Account button on the next page (If you haven’t created an account on upsconline.nic.in website else login using your credentials) and create an account by verify your mobile and email otp.
  • Universal Registration: Log-in then Verify your Photo Id (Aadhaar can be used for validation), enter matriculation details, then preview and lock the universal regisration.
  • Common Application Form: Fill your personal details, parents details (you will need aadhaar and pan number of your parents), contact details and all the required details. Finally submit the Common Application Form.
  • Form Fill up: Click on Examination>>Apply Exam / Recruitment in the menu, check and lock the details of your common application form (you won’t be able to change these after locking). Finally select the exam / recruitment you want to apply and fill the details of your qualifying examination and upload the examination document.
  • Submit Application: Finally Pay the examination / recruitment fee and submit the application form.
  • Take printout of application from after submission or else save as pdf.
