The eligibility criteria for admission to the Ph.D. program depend on the candidate’s qualifications and category/region. The details are as follows:

Master’s Degree Holders:

  • Candidates with a 1-year/2-semester master’s after a 4-year bachelor’s or a 2-year/4-semester master’s after a 3-year bachelor’s in the relevant or allied subject are eligible.
  • Must have at least 55% marks or equivalent grade.
  • For candidates after a 4-year bachelor’s, minimum 75% marks required.
  • Relaxation of 5% (to 50%) for SC/BC (non-creamy layer), Differently-Abled, and EWS candidates of Haryana.

M.Phil. Degree Holders:

  • Candidates with an M.Phil. degree with at least 55% marks or equivalent grade are eligible.
  • Relaxation of 5% (to 50%) applies for SC/BC (non-creamy layer), Differently-Abled, and EWS candidates of Haryana.

Foreign Qualifications:

  • Equivalent master’s or M.Phil. degrees from recognized foreign institutions are also eligible.

Admission to the Ph.D. program is done by the University through a clear and structured process. Candidates must fill the prescribed application form, and a separate form is needed for each subject. The University announces available seats twice a year, following the state reservation policy.

How to Get Admission

  1. For NET / GATE / CEED Qualified Candidates
    • Seats are offered in this order:
      • Category 1: Eligible for JRF, Assistant Professor & Ph.D. (based on interview)
      • Category 2: Eligible for Assistant Professor & Ph.D.
      • Category 3: Eligible for Ph.D. (minimum 40% in NET or as per University rules)
    • Merit Calculation:
      • Category 1: Admission based on interview
      • Category 2 & 3: 70% weight for NET score + 30% for interview
  2. For Subjects Without NET (like Pharmaceutical Sciences, Food Technology, IHTM, Engineering)
    • Candidates must appear for a 100-mark entrance test (50% research methodology + 50% subject-specific)
    • Minimum 50% to pass (SC/ST/Differently-abled candidates get 5% relaxation)
    • Selection: 70% test + 30% interview

Interview

The candidates will be given admisison to the Ph.D Program based on their performance in interview. The interview is conducted by a board including: HOD/Director, faculty members, Dean (R&D) nominee, and an external expert.

  • Assesses domain knowledge, research skills, and past research work
  • Marks: 15 for domain knowledge, 10 for research skills, 5 for research work

Part-Time Ph.D.

  • For working professionals with at least 2 years of experience
  • Admission follows the same procedure as full-time Ph.D.
  • Must submit a No Objection Certificate from employer
  • Minimum 15 days attendance per semester, including weekends
  • Coursework can be regular or online
  • Duration: 3–6 years

Foreign Students (Supernumerary Seats)

  • Each faculty offers 2 extra seats for foreign candidates
  • Merit based on postgraduate marks
  • Must complete Ph.D. in regular mode
  • Candidates with foreign passport, OCI, or PIO card are eligible
  • Seats for foreign students do not exceed 2 per faculty
