The recruitment is completed through a sequence of written, physical and medical stages. Candidates must qualify the applicable stage before moving to the next stage.

  • Paper-I: Computer-Based Examination.
  • PET/PST: Physical Endurance Test and Physical Standard Test for candidates shortlisted from Paper-I.
  • Paper-II: Computer-Based Examination with the revised 2026 pattern.
  • Detailed Medical Examination (DME): Candidates qualifying the preceding stages undergo the prescribed medical examination.

The important change for candidates is that the physical stage comes between Paper-I and Paper-II. Therefore, qualifying Paper-I alone does not mean that a candidate proceeds directly to Paper-II.

The 2026 examination pattern has been revised. The most important change is the introduction of sectional timing in both Paper-I and Paper-II, so candidates cannot freely transfer unused time from one section to another.

  • Question Type: Objective multiple-choice questions.
  • Paper-I Language: Questions are bilingual in Hindi and English, except the English section.
  • Negative Marking in Paper-I: 0.25 marks are deducted for every incorrect answer.
  • Negative Marking in Paper-II: 0.50 marks are deducted for every incorrect answer.
  • Paper-I Minimum Qualifying Marks: 30% for UR, 25% for OBC/EWS and 20% for other categories, before NCC bonus marks.
  • NCC Bonus: NCC ‘C’ certificate holders can receive 5% of maximum marks, NCC ‘B’ 3% and NCC ‘A’ 2% in both papers, subject to the prescribed conditions.

What changed in 2026? Paper-I now has 100 questions and 100 marks with four separate 15-minute sections. Paper-II also has sectional timing, while English Comprehension accounts for 100 questions and 200 marks. This makes section-wise time management particularly important under the revised pattern.

The SSC CPO Sub-Inspector posts covered by this recruitment carry Level-6 pay under the prescribed government pay structure.
