PM YASASVI Scholarship 2026 for College Students

PM YASASVI Central Sector Scheme of Top Class Education in College: This is a merit-based Central Government scholarship, funded 100% by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and administered through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). It is different from the regular Post Matric Scholarship — it is specifically for OBC, EBC, and DNT students who secure admission, on merit, in a “Top Class” institution such as an IIT, IIM, NIT, IIIT, AIIMS, NIFT, NID, National Law University, or another notified central institution. Eligible students get full tuition fee support plus a monthly living allowance, a book/stationery allowance, and one-time laptop assistance. This scholarship is not a simple income-based scholarship — it is merit-based and tied to admission in a specific list of “Top Class” institutions. You need to meet all of the following:

  • You belong to the OBC, EBC, or DNT category.
  • Your total annual family income from all sources is up to Rs. 2,50,000.
  • You have secured admission in a full-time course at one of the notified “Top Class” institutions, according to that institution’s own general selection/entrance criteria (see the institution list below).
  • Selection within each institution is by an inter-se merit list — the scholarship is limited to the number of slots allotted to that institution, so meeting the eligibility criteria does not automatically guarantee an award if slots are full.
  • 30% of the slots allotted to an institution are reserved for eligible girl students, based on their own merit; unused reserved slots can go to eligible boy students.
  • The scheme’s benefit is limited to a maximum of 2 siblings per family. A student availing this benefit as a third sibling must submit an affidavit confirming they are not the third beneficiary.
  • You must apply for the scholarship every year, including for renewal, and stay promoted to the next class/semester — the scholarship is terminated if you are not promoted.

The scheme covers admission in the following types of institutions, as notified by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment:

  • All IIMs, IITs, IIITs, AIIMSs, NITs, NIFTs, NIDs
  • Indian Institutes of Hotel Management
  • National Law Universities
  • Other Central Government institutions empanelled under the scheme
  • Institutions accredited NAAC A++ or A+, ranked in the Top 100 NIRF, or listed as an Institution of National Importance (if not already covered above)
  • Government-approved institutes for Commercial Pilot Training and Type Rating courses, approved by the DGCA

The exact merit criterion used for selection depends on the institution — for example, JEE Advanced rank for IITs, JEE Mains rank for NITs/IIITs, CAT rank for IIMs, NEET rank for medical colleges, and CLAT rank for National Law Universities. Check your institution’s own admission notice for the specific criterion that applies to you.
