The selection process for RRB ALP Online Form 2025 includes the following stages:

  • First Stage CBT I
  • Second Stage CBT II
  • Computer-Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)
  • Document Verification (DV)
  • Medical Examination (ME)

RRB ALP (Assistand Loco Pilot) Exam will be conducted in 4 stages i.e. CBT 1, CBT 2, CBAT AND Document Verification. The standard of questions for CBT-1 will generally be in conformity with the educational standards and/or minimum technical qualifications prescribed for the post. Questions will be of objective type with multiple choice answers and are likely to cover topics pertaining to the following syllabus:

RRB ALP 2025 Stage 1 (CBT) Exam Pattern

  • The RRB ALP 2025 stage 1 exam will have 75 question for 75 marks.
  • The exam time will be 60 minutes (1 Hour).
  • The Computer Based Test (CBT) 1 will consist question from Mathematics, General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Science, and General Awareness of Current Affairs.

Marking Scheme: Each question will be of 1 mark.

Negative Marking: 1/3 mark for each incorrect answer.

RRB ALP 2025 Stage 2 (CBT) Exam Pattern

Note: Candidates who clear the CBT 1 Exam will only be selected for the CBT 2 Exam. Shortlisting will be done for 15 times of the total vacancies in the respected zone and will be based on merit in the CBT 1 Exam. CBT marks will not be counted for final merit list, the CBT Exam is only for shortlist candidates for CBT 2 (Stage 2) exam.

The CBT 2 (Stage 2) Exam will also be conducted in online mode for a total of 150 minutes (2 Hours 30 minutes) duration. The CBT 2 exam will consist of two parts, namely Part A and Part B. Let’s discuss the each part separately. Here is the break-down:

RRB ALP Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)

Candidates who clear the both CBT 1 and CBT 2 exam will be called for the final round i.e. Computer based Aptitude Test (CBAT).

  • Candidates equal to 8 (eight) times the number of ALP vacancies for each notified community / category viz., UR(includes OBC-CL), OBC(NCL), SC, ST and EWS (including ExSM), shall be shortlisted for CBAT on the basis of their marks in Part-A of CBT-2 among the candidates who have chosen the same RRB only with the application of reservation rules, provided they qualify in Part-B of CBT-2. In case more than one candidate obtain marks equal to cut-off point, then the final merit list will be prepared. There is no negative marking in this exam.
  • Shortlisted candidates should produce their Vision Certificate in the prescribed format (as per AnnexureVIA) in original, during the CBAT, failing which they will not be permitted to appear.
  • The CBAT shall be only in English and Hindi and there shall be no negative marking.

RRB ALP CBT 1 Syllabus

  • Mathematics: Number system, BODMAS, Decimals, Fractions, LCM, HCF, Ratio and Proportion, Percentages, Mensuration, Time and Work; Time and Distance, Simple and Compound Interest, Profit and Loss, Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry, Elementary Statistics, Square Root, Age Calculations, Calendar & Clock, Pipes & Cistern etc.
  • Mental Ability: Analogies, Alphabetical and Number Series, Coding and Decoding, Mathematical operations, Relationships, Syllogism, Jumbling, Venn Diagram, Data Interpretation and Sufficiency, Conclusions and Decision Making, Similarities and Differences, Analytical reasoning, Classification, Directions, Statement – Arguments and Assumptions etc.
  • General Science: The syllabus under this shall cover Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences of 10th standard level.
  • General Awareness: Current affairs, science & technology, sports, culture, personalities, economics, politics and other subject of importance.

RRB ALP CBT 2 Syllabus

Syllabus for Part A

  • Basic Science and Engineering: The broad topics that are covered under this shall be Engineering Drawing (Projections, Views, Drawing Instruments, Lines, Geometric figures, Symbolic Representation), Units, Measurements, Mass Weight and Density, Work Power and Energy, Speed and Velocity, Heat and Temperature, Basic Electricity, Levers and Simple Machines, Occupational Safety and Health, Environment Education, IT Literacy etc.

Syllabus for Part B

  • Part-B is only a qualifying test in nature and shall have questions from the various trade syllabi as prescribed by Directorate General of Training (DGT).
  • Note: Qualifying Percentage – 35% for all candidates irrespective of category/community.
  • Syllabus of Various Trades: Please check the website (https://dgt.gov.in.) of Directorate General of Training (GOI) for syllabi of different technical trades.
  • Candidates with ITI/Trade Apprenticeship qualification will be required to appear in the section having questions from their trade.
  • Degree, Diploma candidates have to select one trade from the list of trades listed below against their engineering discipline.

RRB ALP CBAT Syllabus

  • Purpose: The CBAT aims to evaluate a candidate’s mental quickness, decision-making abilities, and capacity to handle live situations under pressure, which are crucial for an Assistant Loco Pilot. 
  • Content:The CBAT typically includes sections like Memory Test, Following Directions Test, Depth Perception Test, Concentration Test, and Perceptual Speed Test. 

The starting salary for an RRB Assistant Loco Pilot ranges from Rs. 19,900 to Rs. 35,000 per month as per the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC) pay scale. This amount may vary depending on the place of posting and other allowances. The selected candidates will be entitled to Level 2 of the Pay Matrix Level 2, with an initial pay scale of INR 19,900 along with other allowances including-

  1. House Rent Allowance (HRA)
  2. Dearness Allowance (DA)
  3. Running Allowance (Based on the km travelled)
  4. Transport Allowance
  5. New Pension Scheme (10% Deduction) etc.

  • One Time Registration: Click on the Apply-Now button below in the Important Links Section and Click on the Apply button and then click on Create An Account on the next page. Fill in the details and verify OTPs received on Text message and E-mail Account.
  • Application Form: After Completing the Registration fill in the details in all steps.
  • Upload Photo and Sign: Upload White background photo and your Signature.
  • Submit Application: Preview the application form and pay the application fee online then final submit the application form.
  • Take printout of application from after submission or else save as pdf.

The age limit is 18 to 30 years as on 01 July 2025. Age relaxation is applicable as per government rules.

The selection process includes CBT 1, CBT 2 (Part A & Part B), CBAT, Document Verification, and Medical Examination.

The CBT 1 will have 75 questions for 75 marks and a duration of 60 minutes. Subjects include Mathematics, Reasoning, General Science, and General Awareness. Negative marking of 1/3 mark for each wrong answer is applicable.

The CBT 2 Exam consists of two parts: Part A (Maths, Reasoning, and Science) and Part B (Relevant Trade). The total duration is 2 hours 30 minutes.

The qualifying percentage for Part B of CBT 2 is 35% for all candidates, irrespective of category.

The CBAT includes tests like Memory Test, Following Directions, Depth Perception, Concentration, and Perceptual Speed. There is no negative marking in this stage.
